Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently sort, gather, and deliver mail items promptly while ensuring safety at all times.
- Serve as a replacement or assistant for colleagues during absences or extra shifts as needed.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of local routes, including roads, customers, and delivery boxes.
- Securely hold mail during transit to prevent loss or damage.
- Manage processing of various postal products such as Change of Address Notifications, handling damaged mail, and delivering billing documents.
- Wear proper identification visibly during mail delivery and collection.
- Lift and carry mail items weighing up to 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms).
- Operate a vehicle under diverse weather and traffic conditions safely and reliably.
Vehicle and Driver Requirements
- Drive a vehicle meeting minimum cargo volume of 100 cubic feet (2,832 liters) with automatic transmission and power windows.
- Vehicle must have a metal rooftop with power outlets for postal signage and flashing lights.
- Vehicle design should accommodate a passenger window sill height between 38-45 inches and interior width up to 56 inches.
- Preferably includes a fifth door/hatchback for loading large or bulky packages.
- Maintain adequate automobile liability insurance and inform insurer of vehicle use for this role.
- Possess a valid permanent provincial driver's license (class 5 or G) and maintain an acceptable driving safety record.
Compensation and Work Details
- Annual salary range: $74,673 to $86,457 including base wages, variable allowances, and vehicle expenses.
- Weekly work hours estimate: 45 to 49.25 hours across 5 days, excluding time for variable tasks.
- Route length: approximately 34.1 kilometers with around 1006 delivery points.
Eligibility and Preferences
Applicants residing within 75 kilometers of the Pender Island Post Office are preferred. English language proficiency is essential.
