Job description

Role overview

RAC is hiring a Roadside Technician to support motorists across the Leeds area. This is a field-based role focused on mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and breakdown recovery, with the aim of getting customers moving again quickly and safely.

What the job involves

You will handle roadside issues such as flat batteries, tyre replacements, and more complex troubleshooting. The role combines technical problem-solving with calm, reassuring customer support, often in time-sensitive situations.

You will begin and end your shift from home, using a company-provided van and equipment, and work locally across the Leeds cluster, including Leeds, Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley, Pudsey, Otley, and Garforth.

Hours and working pattern

The position follows demand-led scheduling, averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

RAC organises work locally so you can start and finish at home rather than travelling to a central depot.

Pay and earnings

The base salary is £36,400 per year, with a realistic on-target earnings figure of £61,000. Strong performers may earn more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.

Tools, support, and setup

From day one, RAC provides a van, fuel card, uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic equipment so you can focus on the job.

Benefits

You will receive free RAC Ultimate breakdown cover from your first day, access to a colleague share scheme, a car salary sacrifice option including electric vehicles after 12 months, holiday entitlement of 23 days plus bank holidays rising to 25 with service, matched pension contributions up to 6.5%, life cover up to 4 times salary (or 10 times with flex benefits), confidential wellbeing support for you and your family, and discounts on tools, technology, holidays, and more.

About RAC

RAC has been supporting drivers for well over a century and serves millions of members across the UK. The organisation values customer service, resilience, and career growth, and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification, or an equivalent credential, and have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience in technical, electrical, and diagnostic work. A full UK driving licence is also required, along with a strong customer-first mindset.

Additional information

No CV is needed to apply for this position. RAC describes the role as varied, fast-paced, and suited to people who enjoy solving problems and working independently in different roadside situations.
