Job description
Role overview
The RAC is looking for a Roadside Technician to support drivers across the Bristol area. This role is focused on roadside repairs, vehicle diagnostics, and breakdown assistance, helping members get moving again as quickly and safely as possible.
You’ll work within the Patrol division and handle a wide range of call-outs, from simple issues such as flat batteries and tyre changes to more involved fault-finding and mechanical repairs.
The position is locally organised, so you will begin and end your day from home and spend your working hours covering nearby locations rather than travelling long distances.
Working area
This role sits within the Bristol cluster and covers Bristol city centre and surrounding suburbs, along with Portishead, Clevedon, Filton, Patchway, Yate, and Keynsham.
Work is arranged locally so you can start and finish at your home address while focusing on helping members in your local region.
Pay and working pattern
The base salary is £36,400 per year, with a realistic on-target earnings figure of £61,000. High performers can earn more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.
Shifts are demand-led and average 40 hours per week, with overtime available if you want additional earning potential.
Tools and support provided
You will be supplied with your own RAC van, fuel card, uniform, essential equipment, and diagnostic tools so you can carry out your work effectively from the start.
What you need
To be considered, you should hold a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification, or an equivalent qualification, and bring at least 2 years of post-qualification technical, electrical, and diagnostic experience.
A full UK driving licence is required, and you should be comfortable working in a customer-facing environment where reassurance and professionalism matter as much as technical skill.
What the job involves
As a Roadside Technician, you will combine hands-on automotive repair with strong customer service. The role requires practical problem-solving, calm decision-making, and the ability to work confidently under pressure in a variety of roadside situations.
Every day will be different, so you should be ready to adapt quickly, assess faults accurately, and make the right repair decision for each member and vehicle.
Benefits
The RAC offers a package of employee benefits designed to support wellbeing, reward contribution, and help you plan for the future. These include share participation, breakdown cover, salary sacrifice options, paid time off, pension support, life cover, wellbeing assistance, and retail-style savings.
Additional information
The RAC has been established for over 125 years and continues to combine long-standing experience with modern roadside support. The company supports more than 15 million members and presents this role as a varied, fast-moving career in automotive roadside services.
No CV is needed to apply for this position.
Equal opportunity and culture
The organisation welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, values different perspectives, and aims to create an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work and grow their careers with support.
