Role Overview

BSBI Berlin is hiring a freelancer for the role of Research Faculty within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. This part-time, on-site position is based in Berlin and focuses on supervising postgraduate dissertation work, strengthening research quality, and contributing to the school’s broader academic research goals.

Key Duties

  • Support postgraduate learners through their final research projects in business, management, and closely related subjects, making sure their work matches academic expectations and programme rules.
  • Guide students as they shape research proposals, choose suitable methods, and improve academic writing.
  • Track dissertation progress and provide practical, constructive input to help students move past research challenges.
  • Advise on ethics, compliance, and the regulations that apply to student research.
  • Help design and carry out research plans that support BSBI’s goals across the school’s disciplines.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary research activity across faculties and academic areas.
  • Coordinate research work across faculties so it stays aligned with the institute’s overall vision.
  • Lead and support research projects, including international cooperation such as Erasmus+, to expand BSBI’s global research reach.
  • Work with academic staff to improve postgraduate research capability and supervision quality.
  • Build relationships with outside partners, industry organisations, and research bodies to strengthen the research network.
  • Represent BSBI at research events and forums in Germany and internationally.
  • Prepare regular updates and reports on dissertation supervision activity and its impact.
  • Help create a collaborative, innovative research environment within the school.
  • Keep up to date with new developments, trends, and good practice in research and higher education.
  • Support ongoing improvements to research processes and outcomes.
  • Take part in promotional efforts that raise the profile of BSBI’s research work.
  • Work closely with the Provost and the Deans to ensure research activity is integrated into the wider academic structure.
  • Supervise up to 130 dissertations each academic year, according to curriculum needs and school demand.

Candidate Profile

  • A Master’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Doctoral study is strongly preferred.
  • Solid command of both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling and analytics systems/frameworks.
  • Knowledge of research philosophies and academic research foundations.
  • Familiarity with research platforms and academic publishing systems used internationally.
  • Evidence of publications in scholarly journals and conference proceedings.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education, ideally at university level.
  • Working knowledge of learning platforms such as Canvas and Blackboard.
  • Understanding of research rules, academic regulations, and study regulations.
  • Prior experience in a comparable university-based academic role.
  • Good command of Windows, Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Microsoft Teams.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English at C2 level.
  • Strong planning and communication abilities.
  • Confidence, social skills, and the ability to influence effectively.
  • Comfort working under heavy workloads while staying organised.
  • An entrepreneurial, commercially aware mindset.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and motivation for continued academic and professional growth.
