Job description
Role Overview
Berlin School of Business and Innovation is hiring a freelance lecturer in Business Management for its Berlin campus. This role serves as the main academic point of contact for the assigned course, unit, module, dissertation, project, or internship. The freelance setup is intended to provide flexibility, while the academic expectations remain the same as those for full-time faculty.
The position is offered on a freelancer, part-time basis and is based in Berlin. Compensation is €50 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver assigned academic modules in accordance with the curriculum and scheduled timetable.
- Update existing course content or design new curriculum material when needed.
- Prepare teaching aids and supporting learning resources, including presentation decks.
- Advise, mentor, and support students throughout their studies.
- Help learners build the skills and competencies required to meet course objectives and learning outcomes.
- Guide students through formative and summative assessment preparation.
- Maintain clear communication with students and provide timely feedback on learning progress.
- Contribute to the school’s visibility through academic engagement and thought leadership activities.
- Track student progress and support academic activity in classrooms, labs, internships, or project settings.
- Supervise dissertations, projects, and internships to the required standard.
- Take part in activities assigned by the Dean of Faculty and/or Chief Academic Officer.
Day-to-Day Tasks
- Lead teaching sessions.
- Support students through mentoring and learning guidance.
- Supervise dissertations.
- Guide project and internship work.
- Draft assignment briefs and assessment task descriptions.
- Handle exam-related and evaluation work.
- Provide regular feedback and mentoring to students.
- Create learning materials and other academic support resources.
- Carry out additional academic duties that are mutually agreed and assigned.
Requirements
- A PhD, or an equivalent qualification, with demonstrated theoretical and practical expertise in the relevant subject area.
- Strong command of practical tools and techniques relevant to the discipline, where applicable.
- Very good working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in spoken and written English at C2 level.
- Strong organisational ability and communication skills.
- High levels of interpersonal competence and confidence in expressing views.
- Ability to stay composed and keep oversight under heavy workloads.
- Resilience and flexibility.
- Desirable: publications in a related academic field.
- Desirable: previous teaching experience at university or higher education level.
- Desirable: professional experience in the field of expertise.
- Desirable: familiarity with learning platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard.
- Desirable: sound understanding of academic regulations and rules.
