Job description

About the team

Zillow Home Loans sits within Zillow Group’s FinTech organization and is focused on improving how people finance homes. The team works in a fast-moving, collaborative setting with a strong emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and rethinking the mortgage journey.

Mortgage Loan Officers in this business may operate in one of two lending models. One path is a high-volume, lead-based, phone-first environment suited to professionals who are strong at quick conversions and rapid relationship-building. The other is a consultative, market-oriented model for people who do well developing long-term partnerships with Zillow Preferred Agents.

Both approaches support Zillow’s purchase-loan strategy and are backed by the company’s technology, brand, centralized operations, and leadership support. Depending on your strengths, you may fit best in a data-driven, responsive workflow or in a relationship-focused local market model.

About the role

This role is for a purchase-focused Mortgage Loan Officer who originates home loans for customers coming through Zillow’s ecosystem. You will support borrowers from initial contact through funding while creating a strong customer experience. Success in the position depends on speed, consistency, performance, and the ability to work within a structured, metrics-based environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle purchase mortgage loans from application to closing and ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Turn company-supplied purchase leads into funded loans through timely follow-up and effective borrower guidance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, and where relevant, with Zillow Preferred Agents and local partners.
  • Keep an active pipeline moving while meeting service targets, productivity goals, and funding expectations.
  • Use Zillow’s CRM, loan origination systems, and analytics tools to monitor pipeline health and customer engagement.
  • Work closely with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to move loans efficiently.
  • Communicate consistently with customers by phone, email, and text to provide a high-quality experience.
  • Stay informed about lending products, market changes, and regulatory updates so you can recommend suitable financing options.
  • Keep licensing active, complete required education, and take part in ongoing professional development.
  • Understand that the role involves collection, storage, and use of voiceprints for operational and compliance purposes.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of mortgage origination experience, with a strong focus on purchase transactions, either as an active NMLS Loan Originator with state licenses or as a Loan Originator under a federal bank license.
  • Completion of the 20-hour CORE Pre-Licensing Education and passing the SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator Test, including the National Component with Uniform State Content.
  • Must be located within 75 miles of the Charlotte, NC branch.
  • Demonstrated success in originating purchase loans in either a high-volume phone sales setting or an agent-driven referral model.
  • Strong customer service approach with consultative selling ability and solid knowledge of the mortgage process.
  • Comfort working in a structured environment with clearly defined performance metrics.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to establish trust quickly.
  • Strong time management, organization, and pipeline management skills.
  • Working knowledge of CRM tools, loan origination systems, and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Compensation and benefits

This position includes a competitive base salary plus incentive compensation. The exact incentive amount depends on experience, performance, and location. Employees may also receive equity awards, with amounts varying based on the same factors. Pay will not fall below the exempt salary threshold required by the state where the employee lives.

Work arrangement

This is a remote position. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office and instead work from a physical location of their choosing, which must be shared with the company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 states, with limited exceptions.
