Recovery Practitioner - Band 5 Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner

About the Role

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) invites applications for the position of Recovery Practitioner within the busy Recovery Room of the Main Theatre at the new Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital in Cwmbrân, Wales. This Band 5 position targets qualified Registered General Nurses (RGNs) or Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) to provide expert post-anaesthetic care in a supportive, well-resourced clinical setting.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will manage post-operative patients efficiently, maintaining patient safety and comfort. They will demonstrate excellent communication and organizational capabilities, prioritizing tasks in a dynamic team environment. Flexibility and a strong work ethic are essential, along with the ability to safely deliver post-operative care and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Requirements and Skills

Applicants must be NMC registered as an RGN or HCPC registered as an ODP. While theatre experience and surgical ward exposure are advantageous, they are not mandatory. Candidates should have excellent clinical skills, proficiency with medical infusion devices and equipment, IT literacy, and completed all mandatory training. Skills in post-anaesthetic care, ILS/PILS training, intravenous medication competence, and Welsh language proficiency are advantageous. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of ABUHB policies, evidence of ongoing professional development, and the ability to deliver sensitive or complex communication effectively. Candidates must be able to travel promptly within the required geographical area to fulfill post duties.

Education and Experience

The role requires consolidated training as a registered nurse or ODP. Degree-level education or a willingness to pursue further academic qualifications is preferred but not essential.
