Job description
About the Company
Temasek is a Singapore-based global investment organisation with a portfolio approach built around long-term, sustainable value creation. As of 31 March 2025, its net portfolio value stood at S$434 billion (US$324 billion, €299 billion, £250 billion, and RMB2.35 trillion). If its unlisted assets were revalued to market, this would add S$35 billion and lift the mark-to-market net portfolio value to S$469 billion. The organisation is guided by its purpose, “So Every Generation Prospers,” and operates on commercial principles with a focus on delivering resilient returns over time.
Temasek operates through 13 offices across 9 countries: in Asia, Beijing, Hanoi, Mumbai, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Singapore; and outside Asia, Brussels, London, Mexico City, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. More information is available through the company’s official website and public review and sustainability materials.
Sustainability Group Overview
Sustainability is embedded in Temasek’s work, from its mandate and operating model to how it shapes its portfolio and engages with portfolio companies. The Sustainability Group works with teams across the organisation and its wider ecosystem to build a climate-resilient, net-zero portfolio that supports nature-positive and inclusive growth. It also helps create new business opportunities and solutions that support sustainable development, advances sustainability thought leadership, and contributes to Temasek’s growth as a sustainable institution creating shared value over the long term.
The Sustainability Group includes several sub-teams that collaborate with investment and functional teams to deepen sustainability capabilities:
- Sustainability Strategy: advances strategy and policy on net zero, nature positive, and inclusive growth, while driving institutional and community-focused sustainability initiatives.
- Sustainable Solutions: supports decarbonisation efforts in portfolio companies and identifies emerging themes and innovative ideas in Sustainable Living to open up new investment opportunities.
- ESG Investment Management (ESG IM): strengthens ESG integration across the investment process and supports portfolio engagement to improve resilience and create long-term value.
- Ecosperity: uses the Ecosperity platform to promote systems change through year-round engagement, thought leadership, and advocacy.
Role Introduction
The ESG Investment Management team works closely with Temasek’s global investment teams and portfolio companies to improve ESG practices and deliver sustainable outcomes that support a resilient, future-ready portfolio. The work covers pre-investment ESG due diligence, climate transition planning, post-investment engagement, framework development, and portfolio monitoring through ESG data and analytics.
What You Will Do
- Conduct detailed ESG research to support due diligence on prospective investments, build or improve internal frameworks, and expand institutional knowledge of the changing ESG landscape.
- Assess how portfolio companies perform on sustainability by reviewing ESG maturity, climate transition preparedness, other material ESG topics, and opportunities to create value through ESG initiatives.
- Help strengthen Temasek’s climate leadership by analysing emissions performance and trends across Temasek and its portfolio.
- Assist in maintaining and developing key dashboards and tools used for monitoring and analysis.
- Support additional priorities and ad hoc assignments as required.
Who They Are Looking For
- A candidate currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
- Prior exposure to ESG or sustainability is useful, though not mandatory.
- Genuine interest in ESG and sustainability, along with a strong desire to learn.
- Strong analytical, data-handling, and communication abilities.
- Comfort working with different stakeholders and coordinating across teams, supported by good interpersonal skills.
- Awareness of how ESG factors connect to a company’s business model and operating realities.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a resume or CV and a short statement of one to two paragraphs explaining their interest in, and motivation for joining, the ESG Investment Management team.
