Role overview

This position is for a Production Merchandiser within the Apparel function, reporting to the Category Head. The role is centered on ensuring smooth order execution, production coordination, vendor alignment, and timely delivery while protecting margin and quality targets.

Core responsibilities

The selected candidate will oversee order flow from placement through pre-production closure, manage timelines, and work closely with sourcing partners to support on-time, in-full deliveries. The role also involves resolving day-to-day production issues with vendors and internal teams, handling sample movement, and keeping production documentation current.

• Coordinate order processing so that placement and pre-production milestones are completed within D2S timelines.
• Close final costing after order placement in line with gross profit targets and agreed deadlines.
• Work alongside the sourcing team to ensure deliveries are completed on time and in full.
• Address daily production challenges for vendors and sourcing partners.
• Arrange sample handover to PPC after the buy meeting, along with tech packs, DP PO creation within one month of order placement, release of Excel POs, and code creation.
• Conduct regular store visits and competitor visits to spot emerging market trends.
• Follow up consistently with adopted stores to identify and close assortment gaps.
• Maintain code sign-offs and keep the production tracker updated.
• Manage range books, style bible records, production files, and related trackers.
• Track fabric stock and plan utilization effectively.
• Review product performance through monthly sell-through analysis.
• Archive original samples and all best-selling samples.
• Maintain range room samples.
• Support onboarding and escalation handling for new vendors and provide training support to existing producers.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with fabric and garment vendors.
• Assist the PH Product Merchandiser in range closure and development to reduce production risks.
• Coordinate fabric deliveries with the cross-functional team.
• Manage T&A planning and execution.
• Track weekly status updates and escalate delays, rejections, or shortages as needed.
• Align monthly buys with OTB plans.
• Keep the distribution tracker updated in real time.
• Ensure all pre-production approvals are completed within 24 working hours.

Experience and qualifications

The role calls for 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in merchandising, sampling, and product development. A degree or diploma in B.FTech, M.FTech, BE Textiles, or BSc Home Science is required.

Required knowledge and capability

• Strong understanding of Fabindia products and apparel business context.
• Practical knowledge of merchandising and product development workflows.
• Ability to handle costing, pricing, and commercial decision-making.
• Working knowledge of craft, textile, and sampling processes.
• Experience in vendor coordination and production planning.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple trackers, files, and operational follow-ups accurately.
