Role Overview
The role of Product Expert – Safety & Medical entails responsibility for the entire Safety and Medical technology ecosystem. This includes overseeing business and technical analysis, managing backlogs, guiding agile delivery, monitoring operational performance, coordinating enhancements and replacements, and planning future capability roadmaps.
The Product Expert collaborates closely with teams across Safety, Medical Affairs, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, as well as Digital & Technology, to implement and continually refine technology solutions that support pharmacovigilance, adverse event monitoring, signal detection, risk management, medical information dissemination, scientific engagement, evidence generation, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The role also encompasses sustaining all business-as-usual (BAU) activities within the Safety and Medical domain, assuring smooth, compliant, and uninterrupted operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain the technology vision and strategic roadmap for Safety and Medical functions aligned with Haleon’s R&D and Consumer Health strategies.
- Collaborate with Safety, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical, and Innovation Portfolio Project Management teams to pinpoint digital initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and scientific decision processes.
- Assess emerging technologies including AI-driven solutions, automation possibilities, and advanced analytics relevant to Safety and Medical fields.
- Ensure that all technology solutions are scalable, secure, comply with regulations, and adhere to enterprise architectural standards.
- Partner with senior business leaders to manage and prioritize the product backlog considering business priorities, compliance mandates, patient safety, and strategic goals.
- Balance resource allocation among innovation, operational excellence, compliance, and reduction of technical debt.
- Lead delivery, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Safety and Medical technology platforms through agile methodologies.
- Create and maintain product roadmaps with Product Managers and key stakeholders.
- Identify and drive automation and process improvements across Safety and Medical operations.
- Guarantee all technology solutions supporting Pharmacovigilance and Medical Affairs meet regulatory, quality, and internal governance standards.
- Support GxP validation, audit preparedness, inspection readiness, computer system validation, and assure data integrity.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, controls, and risk mitigation processes.
- Manage service delivery, operational performance, and vendor relationships for Safety and Medical applications, handling escalations, issue resolution, upgrades, and lifecycle activities.
- Ensure service level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational metrics are consistently met.
- Facilitate reporting and analytics to provide insights into adverse events trends, safety signals, medical inquiries, scientific engagement, and operational performance.
- Work with Data & Analytics teams to develop dashboards, metrics, and AI-enhanced insights.
- Ensure solid data governance and maintain data quality standards across Safety and Medical systems.
- Promote adoption of new capabilities through effective stakeholder communication, training, and change management efforts.
- Champion Agile methodologies and continuous improvement within cross-functional teams.
- Build trust with stakeholders by demonstrating tangible business value and operational outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess 8 to 14 years of relevant professional experience.
- Deep expertise in Pharmacovigilance, Drug/Product Safety, Medical Affairs, and Medical Information processes.
- Proficient with leading Safety and Medical platforms such as Veeva Safety, ArisGlobal LifeSphere, Oracle Argus Safety, MedDRA, Medical Information and Content Management systems, as well as Signal Detection and Risk Management tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of pharmacovigilance regulations, GxP compliance, computer system validation, data integrity principles, and global health authority requirements.
- Experience managing SaaS and enterprise technology products.
- Familiarity with Agile product delivery practices.
- Strong capability in stakeholder management spanning Safety, Medical, Clinical, Regulatory, and Quality teams.
Preferred Competencies
- Experience contributing to AI and automation projects within Safety or Medical Affairs contexts.
- Knowledge of safety signal detection and management, Risk Management Plans (RMPs), aggregate reporting, medical insights generation, and scientific content management.
- Familiarity with Power BI, Azure, Snowflake, or other sophisticated analytics platforms.
- Experience overseeing global vendors and strategic technology partnerships.
