Job Locations

This role is based at multiple locations including HM Prison Berwyn in Wrexham, NPS Unit 6 Flint, and NPS Wrexham Technology Park, all within Wales.

Job Summary

The role requires carrying out comprehensive offender management functions, including assessment, sentence execution, and report preparation for individuals on probation. Candidates will apply service guidelines and professional judgment to manage risk and protect victims and the public.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert information and advice to courts, criminal justice agencies, and partner organisations.
• Manage and supervise individuals subject to community orders, licences, and during incarceration.
• Assess and manage risks posed by offenders to ensure public safety.
• Collaborate with other institutions to prevent crime and support victims and probationers.
• Prepare written reports for courts and parole boards relying on professional assessments.
• Maintain accurate records using computer systems within stipulated deadlines.
• Coordinate timely referrals and foster inter-agency relationships to achieve positive outcomes.
• Participate in professional meetings representing the organisation at partnership forums such as MAPPA and MARAC.
• Support team collaboration and provide professional guidance to Probation Services Officers and staff.
• Provide coverage across teams when needed and conduct visits to prisons, homes, or alternate sites.
• Deliver and co-facilitate accredited programmes appropriate to the role grade.
• Conduct mandatory alcohol and drug testing and adhere to medication protocols.
• Perform safeguarding duties regarding children in accordance with statutory and agency policies.
• Exhibit pro-social modelling by encouraging positive behaviours and challenging negative attitudes.
• Operate within the core values and aims of the Probation Service and HMPPS.

Qualifications and Person Specification

• Must possess a recognized Probation Officer qualification or be a qualified Probation Officer.
• Preferred educational qualifications include PQF Honours Degree, Diploma or Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice, Diploma in Probation Studies, Diploma in Social Work with a probation option, or CQSW with probation option.
