Role overview
This position is for an Operational Support Grade at HMP Bullingdon. The role is central to the smooth, safe, day-to-day running of a busy prison and involves working as part of a supportive team.
What the job involves
You will carry out a mix of desk-based and hands-on duties. Typical tasks include gate security and searches, handling deliveries, supervising visitors, and keeping an eye on phone activity and CCTV. The work is active and varied, and may involve lifting, carrying, and walking to escort vehicles across the prison site.
Travel and attendance
Some prison sites are in rural areas with limited public transport, so having a driving licence and your own transport can be helpful, though it is not always mandatory unless specifically stated. Shift start and end times are fixed, so you must be able to travel to work on time for every shift. You should consider the location carefully before applying.
Driving licence requirement
Applicants must hold a full, valid UK driving licence that includes category D1, which permits driving vehicles with up to 16 passenger seats, a maximum length of 8 metres, and a trailer weighing up to 750kg.

Pay and benefits
The salary for this role is £29,432. Alongside base pay, you will receive 25 days of annual leave on appointment, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service on a pro-rata basis, plus 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays.
