Role Overview
Join His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service at HMP Isle of Wight as an Operational Support Grade, responsible for supporting the daily operations of a busy prison. This role involves diverse duties, including security checks, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, monitoring phone calls and CCTV, and escorting vehicles across the facility. You will balance desk-based tasks with physical activities such as lifting and walking.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform security searches and checks at the prison entrance.
- Manage and oversee deliveries entering the prison.
- Supervise visitors attending the prison.
- Monitor telephone conversations and closed-circuit television footage.
- Escort vehicles around the prison grounds safely and efficiently.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold a full, valid UK Driving Licence as driving is integral to the role.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure environments.
- Good judgement, common sense, and the capability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- No formal qualifications are required, but a proactive and disciplined approach is essential.
Work Pattern and Career Prospects
You will work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, ensuring continuous operational support. While direct contact with prisoners is limited, occasional interactions may occur. This position offers valuable insights into prison operations and possible progression opportunities, including paths toward becoming a Prison Officer through a conversion scheme.
