Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Long Lartin. This is an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the daily operations of a busy prison, ensuring its smooth and safe functioning. You will be an integral part of a dedicated team, performing a wide range of duties that are crucial to maintaining security and order. This role offers a unique career path with significant potential for growth and development within the prison service.

- Undertake a combination of desk-based tasks and physical duties, including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.
- Work a variety of shifts, which may include weekends and nights, to ensure continuous coverage.
Requirements
- No formal qualifications are required.
- Must possess strong communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
- Demonstrate good judgment and common sense.
- Be a collaborative team player.
- Consideration for transport options to the prison, as public transport may be limited.

- Annual leave starts at 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service.
- 9 days of bank, public, and privilege holidays.
- Access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service.
- Eligibility for the Civil Service pension scheme.
- Access to season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
Eligibility
This role is open to individuals who are good communicators, can remain calm under pressure, possess good judgment and common sense, and are effective team players. While no specific qualifications are needed, candidates should be able to manage their own transport to the prison, considering the potential limitations of public transport.
Additional Information
Some prison establishments are situated in rural locations with limited public transport options, therefore a driving licence and own transport is beneficial but is not an essential requirement of the role (unless specified*). Please note that shift start and finish times are fixed and it is your responsibility to get to and from your place of work on time for the start of your shift. Please carefully consider the location of this vacancy and your transport options. Your contact with prisoners will be limited, though occasional interaction may occur depending on the specific prison. The OSG role provides valuable insight into prison operations and can lead to opportunities for other prison jobs, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
