Prison Support Officer - HMP Grendon and Spring Hill

Role Overview

As an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Grendon and Springhill, you will play an essential role in the smooth and safe running of the prison. Your responsibilities will range from security-related tasks such as conducting searches at the gate and supervising visitors, to managing deliveries, monitoring phone calls and CCTV, and assisting with escorting vehicles across the prison grounds. This diverse and active position combines administrative duties with physical activities such as lifting and walking within the prison perimeter.

Who You Are

You do not require formal qualifications to succeed in this role. Strong communication skills, the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations, sound judgment, and being a team player are critical traits for success. Working varied shifts including weekends and nights is expected. Holding a full, valid UK Driving Licence is mandatory as driving assignments form a core component of the role.

Although contact with prisoners is generally limited compared to prison officers, occasional interactions may happen. The role can serve as a stepping stone to other positions including progression to prison officer via conversion schemes.
