Job description
Role Overview
Join HMP Bullingdon as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) providing essential assistance to the daily operations of a busy prison. Your diverse responsibilities will range from security checks and managing deliveries to supervising visitors, monitoring phone calls, and overseeing CCTV surveillance. This role blends administrative duties with physically active tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds.
Location and Travel
The prison is located in a rural area where public transportation options are limited. While a driving licence and personal transport are advantageous, they are not strictly required unless otherwise specified. Note that shift start and finish times are fixed, so punctual travel arrangements are crucial.
Driving Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid UK full driving licence including category D1, allowing operation of vehicles with no more than 16 passenger seats, maximum 8 meters in length, and trailers up to 750kg.
Candidate Profile
No formal qualifications are necessary, but strong communication skills, calmness under pressure, sound judgement, common sense, and teamwork are essential. OSGs work a range of shifts including nights and weekends to ensure smooth prison operations.
Career Opportunities
This unique position offers an opportunity to contribute to public safety and positively influence lives. Contact with prisoners is typically limited, though occasional interaction may occur depending on the establishment. The role provides valuable insight into prison operations and pathways for advancement, including conversion schemes to become Prison Officers.
