About the Role
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Wayland in West Tofts, England. This is an extraordinary job where you will be instrumental in the daily operations of a busy prison. You'll be part of a dedicated team, contributing to security, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring communications and CCTV. The role is dynamic, involving both desk-based tasks and physical activities like lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.
Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day running of HMP Wayland.
- Perform security checks and searches at the prison gate.
- Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries.
- Supervise visitor interactions.
- Monitor phone calls and CCTV feeds.
- Undertake physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles.
- Assist in maintaining a smooth and safe prison environment.
Requirements
- No formal qualifications are required.
- Must possess good communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
- Demonstrate good judgment and common sense.
- Must be a strong team player.
- Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and nights.
- Consideration of personal transport options is advised due to the rural location and fixed shift times.
