Job description
Role Purpose
Control Risks provides comprehensive consulting services tailored to private equity, credit, infrastructure, real assets, real estate, sovereign wealth, and development funds. Services include transaction-specific diligence focusing on financial crime, reputational issues, performance, ESG factors, and cyber risks tied to investment targets and management. Additionally, the firm conducts political and policy risk assessments by sector or country, commercial intelligence, and proactive/reactive risk management for clients' portfolio companies and assets. This role is responsible for spearheading Control Risks' strategy for private market investors in Singapore and across the APAC region, positioning the company as a top advisor in this space.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new client opportunities.
- Manage ongoing relationships and projects with current clients.
- Innovate and expand service offerings to align with evolving client demands and market changes, with emphasis on portfolio risk solutions.
- Engage and lead collaborations with industry bodies and professional advisors to raise brand awareness and service visibility among private market investors.
- Assess team skill gaps and formulate training and development strategies to address them.
Team Environment
The successful candidate will join an established business intelligence team of over 60 professionals located in eight Asia-Pacific cities, working closely with various Control Risks practice areas. The team is expanding through client diversification by organization type and geography.
Detailed Role Tasks
- Design and execute business development campaigns for private markets, aiming for consistent growth in client numbers and project complexity.
- Build relationships with industry associations and professional networks, selecting optimal events to enhance brand recognition.
- Develop new contact points within existing and prospective clients to better serve transaction and portfolio support needs.
- Maintain a public presence through speaking engagements and thought leadership articles showcasing subject-matter expertise.
- Craft client-focused proposals that integrate innovation and incorporate client feedback to stay market-leading.
- Lead complex projects for private markets investors, coordinating expertise from multiple Control Risks divisions as needed.
- Establish and manage a network of human sources and subcontractors to support practice expansion and service delivery.
- Drive the creation of risk-focused products for private investors using company intelligence, compliance, and data resources.
- Promote an inclusive and cooperative culture across practices, offices, and regions.
- Ensure team awareness of pricing, profitability, and value capture to exploit both premium and budget opportunities.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
- Proficiency in designing and managing complex repeat engagements with investment, legal, compliance, ESG, or impact teams within private markets investors.
- Ability to maintain trusted advisory relationships with senior decision-makers.
- Proven track record in cultivating new client relationships and expanding practice areas.
- Experience in service innovation and successful client adoption.
- Strong understanding of economic, political, and regulatory developments influencing private market funds and associated risks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
- Professional background in private markets, investment banking, or consulting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in an additional Asian language is preferred.
- Advanced analytical thinking and report writing capabilities.
- Systematic and methodical project management abilities.
- Strong multitasking and ability to juggle numerous projects under tight deadlines.
- Sound commercial judgment in project planning and pricing.
