Overview
Join the Ministry of Education in Wellington, New Zealand, as a Principal Advisor dedicated to enhancing educational achievements for ākonga Māori. This full-time, permanent role is based onsite and offers flexibility in the work location.
About the Role
As Principal Advisor within the Ākonga Māori Outcomes team, you will drive key projects and initiatives aimed at improving participation, progress, and success for Māori learners across English-medium, Māori-medium, and Kaupapa Māori education settings. You will provide strategic advice backed by evidence and insights, connecting national education priorities to regional execution and fostering continuous enhancements in the education system.
You will cultivate and sustain robust partnerships with Māori organizations, regional teams, peak bodies, and other stakeholders, ensuring community voices and educators meaningfully influence the planning and delivery of education services.
Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to strategic projects focused on Māori learner outcomes.
- Offer high-quality, evidence-based advice to senior leaders and diverse audiences.
- Build trusted relationships with Māori organizations, sector stakeholders, and regional education teams.
- Align national education goals with regional implementation and support system improvement.
- Collaborate closely with internal Ministry groups, regional teams, and Māori education services.
Candidate Profile
- Experienced in managing strategic initiatives or programs within complex environments.
- Proficient at developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with Māori stakeholders to realize shared objectives.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities combined with excellent written communication skills.
- Knowledgeable about education across multiple settings including English-medium, Māori-medium, and Kaupapa Māori.
- Effective communication skills in both English and te reo Māori.
- Commitment to upholding the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
Team Environment
The Ākonga Māori Outcomes team operates under Te Mahau | Education Services within the Operational Standards and Support group. This group oversees projects and initiatives supporting equitable educational outcomes for Māori learners and their whānau. The team engages in service and intervention design, project management, resource development, and contract oversight, working in partnership with regional teams and other Ministry groups.
Compensation and Benefits
The remuneration ranges from NZD 119,000 to NZD 144,000 annually, plus KiwiSaver contributions. Salary placement will depend on your individual qualifications and experience.
