About the Role

Join the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme at the Ministry of Education New Zealand as a Product Manager focusing on Industry Led Subjects. This fixed-term role, available until 30 June 2027, supports the development and delivery of the secondary curriculum for years 11 to 13. Preference is given to candidates based in Wellington, but remote work from anywhere in New Zealand is possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate the vision for curriculum and assessment design into consistent, high-quality products by leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Promote organisational cohesion to ensure alignment across subjects, teams, and leadership.
  • Balance upstream strategic input and downstream operational support to keep decisions and delivery tightly integrated.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum with practical experience in secondary and vocational education.
  • Proven track record designing, developing, and implementing curricula, including Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways.
  • Experienced in leading technical writers and subject matter experts to produce quality curriculum materials.
  • Strong expertise in quality assurance to evaluate and refine curriculum products against defined standards and strategic goals.
  • Skilled at developing templates, guidance, and resources to standardise curriculum development processes.
  • Ability to create and facilitate communities of practice that foster collaboration and continuous capability improvement.
  • Significant teaching experience with deep understanding of curriculum delivery, instructional methods, and learner needs.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management, working effectively with Industry Skills Boards, curriculum specialists, and Ministry colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills to simplify complex curriculum and policy concepts into clear guidance.

About Our Team

The Phase 5 Assessment team is a group of experienced education professionals responsible for designing and developing the New Zealand Curriculum framework that underpins all Programme materials. This team operates in a hybrid environment with the flexibility to work from home up to twice per week.

  • This is a fixed-term position with a salary range of $119,171 to $144,560 per annum plus KiwiSaver contributions. Salary placement depends on individual skills and experience.
