Job description
Overview
Assume a key community leadership role as a Postmaster with Canada Post located in Savant Lake, Ontario. Reporting to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, the Postmaster is charged with advocating for and selling postal products and services to the local community, managing staff, and fostering a customer-centric atmosphere in a dynamic setting of varying priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage continuously with the local populace concerning Canada Post's services and offerings.
- Drive sales and promotion of postal services to residents and local businesses.
- Provide and maintain suitable, centrally located premises within the community for the post office, available at least 30 days prior to commencement.
- Oversee daily post office operations, ensuring retail hours and delivery standards are consistently met.
- Manage financial aspects, including postal revenues and assets.
- Maintain diligent records and generate necessary reports.
- Support efficient administration of mail delivery routes.
- Possibly handle mail sorting for postal boxes when required.
- Supervise staff members as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and an organized environment compliant with Canada Post standards.
- Operate the post office with efficiency and due diligence.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of High School Diploma or an equivalent provincial certification and/or hands-on experience in business management.
- Availability of owned or leased premises that are suitable, centrally located, barrier-free, and accessible to persons with disabilities; approval and inspections occur at least one month prior to employment start.
- Experience engaging with customers in retail, service, sales, and cash handling contexts.
- Familiarity with postal regulations, procedures, and mail handling methods.
- Physical capability to lift mail containers weighing up to 50 lbs, manipulate mailboxes, sort mail, and stand for long duration periods.
Premises and Operational Conditions
- Postmasters are responsible for the costs associated with premises including rent/lease, utilities, maintenance, cleaning, snow removal, municipal taxes, and insurance covering property and liability.
- Service hours are determined by Canada Post and may be adjusted as required.
- Appointments are subject to compliance with the Canada Post Act.
Additional Information
- Transfer requests from current Canada Post employees who belong to the CPAA may be prioritized, particularly from those within the specific area of competition.
- A lease allowance per annum is provided to partially offset premises operating expenses.
- An annual supplemental allowance may be available to assist with premises-related costs.
