The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) division maintains and supervises the global framework for risk identification, controls, reporting, and management within risk tolerance across Julius Baer's business activities, fostering sustainable growth. Compliance is embedded within the Risk, Legal and Compliance Division, supporting Senior Management to ensure adherence to both external and internal regulations that actively manage operational, regulatory, and reputational risks.
Role Overview
The Periodic Review Compliance Officer (PR CO) will oversee the compliance review and approval process for all high and highest risk client relationships, portfolios, and accounts held within Julius Baer Singapore (BJBS). This position is crucial in maintaining regulatory standards and managing risk effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Support CRO and Senior Management at BJBS branch to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and actively manage operational, regulatory, and reputational risks.
- Contribute as a member of the periodic review team, handling compliance reviews for BJBS.
- Develop and nurture strong partnerships with stakeholders, including BJBS Front Office, Client Documentation Services, KYC/AML Onboarding, AML Investigations, and Risk Management teams.
- Assist Head of AML/KYC Singapore and Head of Periodic Review in overseeing compliance reviews of existing client relationships, portfolios, and accounts, alongside addressing new or incremental KYC/CDD risks that arise during client relationships.
- Collaborate and provide guidance to local and international Relationship Managers (Hong Kong, Thailand, Dubai) on periodic review submissions, including changes to client KYC profiles, account structures, and newly detected adverse news or risk factors.
- Support ad-hoc KYC/CDD inquiries and issues raised by regulators, auditors, and Head Office.
- Conduct thorough client profile reviews within assigned periodic review cycles to ensure compliance with internal standards and AML/CFT/CDD regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate client risk assessments and due diligence focused on high and highest risk profiles.
- Identify and address any incremental AML/KYC risks during reviews and escalate issues as necessary.
- Perform name screening reviews (using tools such as Google, World Check, Factiva) to support periodic reviews.
- Review transactional activities during review periods to confirm alignment with client risk profiles and investigate suspicious transactions.
- Contribute to projects and process improvements relating to KYC/CDD.
- Exemplify integrity and ethical behavior, including honesty, diligence, fair customer treatment, conflict-of-interest management, continuous development, and compliance with laws and regulations.
- Ensure proper identification, assessment, and documentation of all KYC/CDD matters, escalating any unresolved issues especially if suspicious conduct is detected.
Candidate Profile
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a confident personality.
- Team-oriented mindset, with prior team leadership experience considered an asset.
- Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent prioritization skills and capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- High sense of responsibility, exceptional integrity, and attention to detail.
- Fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of additional Asian languages advantageous.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in KYC onboarding, periodic review, and/or AML roles within private banking or wealth management.
- Strong academic background and comprehensive understanding of private banking and wealth management sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of MAS Notice 626 & Guidelines.
- Experience managing AML/CFT regulatory inspections, both external and internal audits, and leading strategic projects.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
