Job description
Position Overview
The Pastry Kitchen Commis will be responsible for preparing ingredients and food items adhering to established recipes, quality, and presentation standards. The role involves tasks such as portioning, chopping, washing, peeling, weighing, measuring, and mixing of raw ingredients. Additionally, cooking and preparing cold dishes, operating kitchen appliances like ovens and fryers, and ensuring food quality throughout preparation are key duties.
Daily Responsibilities
- Prepare food ingredients including portioning, chopping, washing, and peeling fresh produce.
- Accurately weigh, measure, and combine ingredients according to standardized recipes and presentation criteria.
- Operate cooking equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers safely and efficiently.
- Test food readiness and monitor quality during cooking and preparation.
- Set up and break down work stations in an organized manner.
- Serve food in correct portions using appropriate containers and utensils.
- Maintain cleanliness through regular washing and disinfecting of kitchen surfaces, tools, knives, and equipment.
- Regularly check temperature settings for appliances and stored food to ensure safety compliance.
- Report any maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to the manager promptly.
- Adhere strictly to company health, safety, and security policies and complete all necessary safety training and certifications.
- Maintain professional appearance and uphold confidentiality of company information.
- Cultivate positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with team members to achieve shared objectives.
- Physically able to stand, sit, walk for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring bending, reaching, lifting (up to 25 pounds), pulling, and stooping.
- Perform additional reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum educational requirement: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- At least one year of relevant experience in food preparation or culinary roles.
- No supervisory experience required.
- No license or certification necessary.
