Overview
Kingston Libraries, a division within the Arts, Events & Libraries department of the City of Kingston, invites applications for a permanent part-time Library Officer position. The role entails working approximately 28 hours a week across multiple locations including Parkdale, Clarinda, and Westall libraries. Shift days include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a fortnightly late shift on Wednesday evenings (12 PM - 8 PM) and rotating weekends as scheduled. This position is classified under Library Band 4A with a pro-rata salary of $76,383.
About Kingston Libraries
The library service consists of over 80 employees operating eight branches, delivering 376 hours weekly. The resources include more than one million loans per year, 2,000+ programs and events, and cater to approximately 400,000 visitors annually. Major libraries are located at Chelsea, Cheltenham, and Parkdale, along with smaller branches in Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, Patterson Lakes, and Westall.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary face of Kingston Libraries by delivering exemplary customer service and supporting community engagement.
- Manage circulation duties, aid reader development, promote digital literacy, maintain collections, and ensure the presentation and organization of library branches.
- Support and advocate library programs, services, and events actively to the public.
- Educate patrons on new and existing library technologies, collections, resources, and equipment.
- Perform administrative functions necessary for smooth library operations.
Required Experience and Skills
- Strong customer service background, preferably with some experience in a library environment.
- Experience and capability in fostering reader engagement and enhancing digital literacy.
- Comfortable working with diverse technological tools and eager to explore library technology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Resilient and positive approach to working in public-facing environments.
- Experience in planning and supporting community programs and events.
- Tertiary qualification in any field is required; library-related certificates or diplomas are advantageous.
- Flexibility and mobility to work across multiple library locations as service demands vary.
