Job description
Role overview
Moonee Valley Libraries is hiring an Online Engagement Librarian for Sam Merrifield Library in Moonee Ponds. This is a fixed-term part-time role running until 31 August 2027, with a 14-hour work week as part of a job-share arrangement.
The position sits at Library Band 5 and starts at $46.76 per hour, plus 12% superannuation, with final remuneration depending on experience and skills.
The closing time for applications is 9 July 2026 at 11:00 pm.
About the opportunity
This role is suited to a creative, digitally confident library professional who can strengthen the organisation’s online presence and improve how the community connects with library services digitally. The successful person will help shape content, support technology access, and contribute to the delivery of accessible, user-friendly online services.
You will also work with staff and community-facing technology, support public digital services, and help build capability across the team through guidance and mentoring.
Key duties
Responsibilities include creating and managing content for the library website and social media channels, keeping online messaging current and engaging, and working with Council’s Communications Team to ensure consistency with broader communications plans.
You will also help produce printed and digital promotional material, coordinate the release of online program content, and provide customer support for technology-related enquiries, including computers, eBooks, library apps, and mobile devices.
In addition, the role includes taking a leadership presence during rostered shifts, supporting and mentoring colleagues, preparing statistical reports, and contributing to improvements in technology services and online engagement.
Skills and experience
To be considered, you should hold a library and information management qualification that supports eligibility for ALIA Associate membership, along with relevant experience in a public library setting.
Strong capability in online content production, social media use, digital collections, clear communication, staff leadership, mentoring, and customer service is important. A proactive approach, willingness to innovate, and a genuine interest in community connection will be highly valued.
A current driver’s licence is preferred, but not essential.
Application requirements
Applicants must provide a resume and a cover letter of no more than two pages addressing the Key Selection Criteria in the Position Description. Applications must be lodged through the organisation’s online system and follow the application guide. Submissions that do not meet these requirements may not be shortlisted.
For role-related queries, candidates may contact Matthew Mallard, Team Leader Sam Merrifield Library, on (03) 9243 1972 or via mmallard@mvcc.vic.gov.au.
