About Kingston Libraries

Kingston Libraries is a significant public library service with a team of over 80 staff across eight branches, delivering more than 376 service hours per week. It supports a vibrant community with around a million loans annually, hosting over 2,000 programs and welcoming 400,000 visitors each year. Major branches include Chelsea, Cheltenham, Parkdale, and Westall, alongside smaller branches at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, and Patterson Lakes.

Role Overview

The City of Kingston is seeking a qualified and experienced librarian to join the team based primarily in Parkdale, with duties spanning Parkdale, Clarinda, and Westall libraries, including other sites as required. This permanent full-time role involves 35 hours weekly, with shifts that include one late evening per fortnight and weekend work. Shift times and locations may vary depending on organizational needs, and traveling between sites during shifts is expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the welcoming face and representative of Kingston Libraries, providing service that surpasses customer and team expectations.
  • Deliver customer service librarian duties within a dynamic, diverse public library environment.
  • Take responsibility as Senior on Duty by supervising and directing staff as necessary.
  • Perform various rostered customer service tasks across all library locations, covering weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Support and promote library programs and events that enhance literacy and digital literacy across the community.

Candidate Profile and Skills

  • Strong customer service experience and skills demonstrated in previous roles.
  • Proficient in assisting with reader advisory and digital literacy.
  • Possess a tertiary qualification such as a Degree, Masters, or Graduate Diploma in library and information studies, qualifying for Associate membership of ALIA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proven team collaboration experience.
  • A positive, enthusiastic, and resilient approach to engaging with diverse customer groups and team members in a front-facing role.
  • Flexibility and ability to commute efficiently between multiple library sites.

Additional Information
