Job description
Role Overview
A luxury fashion brand is seeking a culturally astute Freelance Trend Researcher to work part-time on a project basis. This fully remote position involves identifying and interpreting early cultural signals relevant to Gen Z and translating them into actionable insights for the brand’s Color & Concept team. The ideal candidate will connect fashion, media, digital communities, and cultural trends to forecast future developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously track and analyze emerging cultural movements among Gen Z audiences, identifying trends before they reach the mainstream.
- Research trends across a broad spectrum including fashion, street style, music, art, design, beauty, gaming, nightlife, technology, wellness, digital culture, and changing consumer habits.
- Monitor conversations and visual trends on social media platforms, creator hubs, online forums, niche publications, and cultural events.
- Gather, curate, and annotate visuals, articles, images, and cultural references to provide valuable input for design and concept teams.
- Distill complex and abundant information into clear, concise insights detailing trend significance, origin, and potential progression.
- Present research findings in well-organized, editorially engaging formats that creatives can easily use.
- Maintain ongoing awareness of cultural dialogues encompassing both specialized subcultures and broader societal changes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Trend Forecasting, Fashion Journalism, Fashion Editorial, or a related field.
- Background in creative research, cultural strategy, branding, or consumer insights specific to fashion, luxury, or lifestyle sectors.
- Deep and authentic understanding of cultural dynamics, focusing on communities and behaviors rather than fleeting viral phenomena.
- Strong research intuition with a talent for identifying patterns from diverse cultural data sources.
- Excellent editorial sensibilities and a refined visual taste in contemporary fashion and design aesthetics.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage ambiguity, and self-direct research without detailed briefs.
- High organizational aptitude and meticulous documentation skills.
- Outstanding written communication and storytelling skills to convert observations into coherent cultural insights.
- Familiarity with platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Discord, Reddit, Substack, independent magazines, and emerging digital environments.
- Genuine enthusiasm for anticipating cultural shifts and ongoing curiosity about evolving trends.
