Job description

Job Summary

The State of Maryland is seeking a full-time Paralegal II for the Maryland Board of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. This role involves independently preparing official minutes for Board of Nursing meetings, researching and applying regulations related to child support order non-compliance, and supporting departmental administration. The position will also draft disciplinary orders, consent agreements, legal briefs, and other legal documents on behalf of the Board. Additionally, the Paralegal II will act as a secondary designee for Public Information Act requests, conducting research and performing final reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare minutes for open and closed session meetings of the Board of Nursing, adhering to the Open Meetings Act.
  • Research and apply relevant regulations and statutes for cases involving non-compliance with child support orders.
  • Draft disciplinary orders, consent orders/agreements, case memoranda, advisory letters, legal briefings, and other legal pleadings for the Board.
  • Provide attorney review and execution support for legal documents.
  • Serve as a secondary designee for Public Information Act requests, performing research and final review of documents.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary, including legal research or preparing legal documents for an attorney.
  • Substitution options: Thirty credit hours or a paralegal certificate from an accredited college/university, or thirty credit hours from an accredited law school may substitute for the required experience.
  • Additional years of relevant experience can substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Military experience as a non-commissioned officer in paralegal specialist classifications may substitute for the required experience.
  • A valid Maryland driver's license may be required if assigned duties involve operating a motor vehicle.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in developing audit tools and creating workflow charts, organization charts, and other analytical aids.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Suites.
  • Strong note-taking skills, including excellent spelling, grammar, attention to detail, and active listening.
