Overview

Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland. This essential role involves assisting with the daily operations of a busy prison, combining administrative tasks with active duties such as security checks, visitor supervision, and escorting vehicles around the prison grounds. Candidates must possess a full and valid UK Driving Licence as driving is a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Perform security duties including searches at the entrance gate.
Manage delivery logistics and supervise visitors.
Monitor phone calls and operate CCTV systems.
Carry out physical tasks requiring lifting, carrying, and walking across prison premises.
Drive vehicles within the prison environment as part of daily operations.
Work various shifts including weekends and nights to ensure smooth running of the establishment.

Candidate Profile

No formal qualifications are required, but strong communication skills, calmness under pressure, sound judgment, and teamwork are essential qualities for success in this fast-paced environment. Interaction with prisoners is limited but may occasionally occur depending on the location.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary of £30,491 per annum.
Annual leave of 25 days initially, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service (pro rata applicable).
