About the Role

The House of Commons Administration supports Members of Parliament and their staff by delivering exceptional services that uphold parliamentary democracy. The Parliamentary Precinct Operations Services is establishing a candidate pool for anticipatory staffing of Maintenance and Material Handling Persons. These roles are vital for maintaining the high standard of operational services delivered 24/7 across six main buildings of the Parliamentary Precinct and several satellite locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of indoor spaces to maintain the condition and appearance of interior finishes throughout the Parliamentary Campus.
  • Provide effective cleaning services for outdoor courtyards, building entrances, Food Services areas, and during special events.
  • Ensure timely delivery and pickup of materials and supplies, along with prompt setup and equipment installation for events.
  • Conduct office relocations and contribute actively to the "Greening the Hill" program by collecting recyclable and compostable materials.
  • Carry out other physically demanding duties as assigned.

Work Conditions and Requirements

  • Flexibility to work weekends and shifts across day, evening, and night hours.
  • Availability for overtime and irregular hours at short notice.
  • Requirement to wear CSA-approved safety boots.
  • Ability to safely work at heights ranging from 4 to 25 feet.
  • Passing a pre-placement medical and physical fitness assessment due to the role’s physical demands.

Qualifications

  • Education: Secondary School Diploma or an equivalent mix of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Experience: Industrial or commercial custodial cleaning experience; experience with material handling and room setups involving goods and furniture; basic computer operation skills including email and internet usage.
  • Assets: Valid WHMIS 2015 for Workers certification issued after January 2018; Working at Heights Certification or equivalent; customer service experience.
  • Note: Electronic copies of certifications will be requested during screening.
