Job Overview

The Midwife will deliver maternal and newborn health services to women across all age groups, providing obstetric and neonatal care in accordance with established protocols. Working closely with a supervising specialist physician, the midwife ensures comprehensive health management to prevent complications before, during, and after pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain consistent antenatal and postnatal care, promote healthy pregnancy spacing, and offer safe delivery, emergency obstetric and newborn care following BEmONC and CEmONC standards.
• Provide clinical support to survivors of violence against women and girls.
• Evaluate and facilitate referrals of pregnant women from traditional birth attendants to healthcare facilities.
• Uphold strict hygiene and sterilization standards, including universal precautions.
• Conduct routine cleaning and minor maintenance of biomedical equipment, adhering to user manuals, and report malfunctions promptly.
• Manage regular supply and monitoring of drugs and equipment essential for maternity services.
• Protect patient confidentiality and supervise administrative processes related to admissions and hospitalizations.
• Independently conduct skilled deliveries and manage obstetric emergencies per national and international guidelines.
• Oversee proper use of medications, facilities, and materials for maternal and newborn health services.
• Ensure quality outpatient and inpatient care along with health education and cooperation with relevant departments.
• Maintain accurate daily data records on antenatal care, admissions, deliveries, postnatal care, pregnancy timing/spacing, outpatient visits, discharges, referrals, and strengthen healthcare linkages.
• Support mental health and nutritional care for at-risk infants and their mothers through an integrated treatment approach.
• Advise and promote breastfeeding through counseling on positioning, attachment, feeding duration, frequency, and techniques like effective and double suckling.
• Submit timely and precise reports as required.
• Perform additional duties assigned relevant to the role.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of a clinical midwifery program alongside a General Nursing and Midwifery Certificate.
• Possession of a current license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council or a comparable accreditation body.
• Minimum of two years professional clinical midwifery experience in environments with limited resources.
• Proficiency in English and local languages is mandatory.
• Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and internet usage.
