Job description
Job Overview
This role involves evaluating the nutritional status of prenatal patients and formulating care plans tailored to their nutritional needs to promote optimal pregnancy outcomes.
Key Duties
- Certify eligible patients for WIC, documenting both assessments and care plans in the Crossroads system.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of prenatal maternity patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and eco-social data.
- Create personalized nutrition care plans and assist patients in understanding these through counseling and educational materials.
- Provide continuous follow-up to monitor progress, encourage adherence, and adjust plans as needed, documenting all interventions and patient responses electronically.
- Develop specialized nutritional plans for high-risk prenatal patients with conditions such as adolescence, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anemia, renal disease, abnormal weight changes, and substance use.
- Collaborate in monthly interdisciplinary meetings to align nutrition goals and strategies with maternity care teams including physicians and social workers.
- Support disaster response efforts as necessary and fulfill other responsibilities assigned by supervisors.
Educational and Credential Requirements
Candidates must hold either a Registered Dietitian credential from the Commission on Dietetics Registration; a Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; completion of an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics plus two years of nutrition experience; be a Dietetic Technician, Registered, with a bachelor’s degree plus two years experience; or possess a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics or related field with two years of relevant experience. Submission of a transcript is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Specialized expertise in nutrition and dietetics principles to promote health improvements.
- Understanding of medical terminology and proficient documentation within electronic medical records.
- Comprehensive knowledge of developmental and prenatal nutrition specifically.
Additional Conditions
- Must undergo a criminal background check as per G.S. 153A-94.2(b) prior to employment.
- Registered Dietitian credential mandatory to satisfy program standards.
