Nutritionist II - Maternity Registered Dietitian

Job Overview

This role involves evaluating the nutritional status of prenatal patients and formulating care plans tailored to their nutritional needs to promote optimal pregnancy outcomes.

Key Duties

• Certify eligible patients for WIC, documenting both assessments and care plans in the Crossroads system.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of prenatal maternity patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and eco-social data.
• Create personalized nutrition care plans and assist patients in understanding these through counseling and educational materials.
• Provide continuous follow-up to monitor progress, encourage adherence, and adjust plans as needed, documenting all interventions and patient responses electronically.
• Develop specialized nutritional plans for high-risk prenatal patients with conditions such as adolescence, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anemia, renal disease, abnormal weight changes, and substance use.
• Collaborate in monthly interdisciplinary meetings to align nutrition goals and strategies with maternity care teams including physicians and social workers.
• Support disaster response efforts as necessary and fulfill other responsibilities assigned by supervisors.

Educational and Credential Requirements

Candidates must hold either a Registered Dietitian credential from the Commission on Dietetics Registration; a Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; completion of an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics plus two years of nutrition experience; be a Dietetic Technician, Registered, with a bachelor’s degree plus two years experience; or possess a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics or related field with two years of relevant experience. Submission of a transcript is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Specialized expertise in nutrition and dietetics principles to promote health improvements.
• Understanding of medical terminology and proficient documentation within electronic medical records.
• Comprehensive knowledge of developmental and prenatal nutrition specifically.

Additional Conditions

• Must undergo a criminal background check as per G.S. 153A-94.2(b) prior to employment.
• Registered Dietitian credential mandatory to satisfy program standards.
