Overview

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, the largest mental health trust in the West Midlands, seeks a dedicated and proactive Manual/People Handling Advisor to join their Health and Safety team. This vital position supports the delivery of the Trust's Health and Safety strategy by ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and promoting best practices in manual handling throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise staff across multiple sites on manual and people handling practices to enhance safety.
  • Deliver training sessions to improve staff competence in safe handling techniques.
  • Conduct relevant risk assessments related to manual handling activities.
  • Review and develop policies and procedures governing manual handling and health and safety.
  • Investigate incidents related to manual handling and provide comprehensive reports.
  • Participate in meetings pertinent to health and safety initiatives and operational requirements.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with clinical teams, managers, and staff, promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective manual handling systems that balance organizational needs with safety best practices.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Experience working in clinical NHS environments, preferably within mental health or community settings.
  • Substantial practical expertise in manual and people handling.
  • Background in Nursing, Allied Health Professions, or similar healthcare fields.
  • Strong interest and dedication to supporting safe working practices.
  • Practical knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to manual handling.
  • Multi-site work experience is essential.
  • Educational qualifications including a NEBOSH Diploma, related degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and interpersonal skills with a persuasive, positive attitude.
