Job description
Overview
Are you seeking a fulfilling career pathway that offers hands-on experience and nationally recognized qualifications? Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting four Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians. This is a two-year, full-time fixed-term post based primarily at Central/Summerhill Pharmacy in Erdington, with rotations at HMP Birmingham, Winson Green, and Reaside Clinic in Rubery.
Training and Education
This role includes structured training leading to a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, essential for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Training occurs at multiple Trust sites, combined with one day per week of attendance at Birmingham Metropolitan College or Walsall College, commencing September 2026. Workplace support is provided by assessors and college tutors.
Role Expectations
During your training, you will gain diverse experience within mental health, prison, and secure care environments. Responsibilities include dispensing prescriptions, managing stores and procurement, medicines optimization, ward-based medication stock management, patient-specific medication ordering, and medicines reconciliation. Collaboration with multidisciplinary pharmacy teams is intrinsic to the role.
Benefits and Working Conditions
The post offers a Band 3 salary scale, 27 days of annual leave plus Bank Holidays, and a 37.5-hour workweek generally with one late evening shift weekly (subject to scheduling changes).
