Job description
About Karbon
Karbon is a global provider of AI-driven practice management software built for accounting firms. Its cloud-based platform helps accounting professionals collaborate and operate more efficiently. The company serves customers in 40 countries and operates with a distributed workforce across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. Karbon is well-funded, holds a top ranking on G2, is growing quickly, and is known for a people-centered culture recognized through Great Place To Work certification and inclusion on Fortune magazine’s Best Small Workplaces list.
Role Overview
The Managing Director, Strategic Account will be the end-to-end owner of a major program for a strategic customer. Reporting to the CCO, this person is responsible for the plan, the team, the customer partnership, and the delivery outcomes from project kickoff through go-live, then through Phase II and beyond. The position is highly visible and demands a senior operator who can manage a complex, multi-stream initiative while also leading an executive customer relationship.
Program Leadership
- Act as the primary owner from proof of concept through complete rollout and the stages that follow.
- Guide and oversee the master plan across onboarding and configuration, training and enablement, data migration, integrations, rollout execution, support, and reporting.
- Lead weekly program status meetings, steering committee reviews, and executive update calls.
- Take responsibility for identifying risks, escalating them appropriately, and driving them to closure.
Customer Relationship
- Serve as the main executive contact for the customer throughout the engagement.
- Develop alignment and confidence with sponsors, operations leaders, and office champions.
- Handle conflicting priorities, unclear expectations, and scope-related conversations with steadiness and precision.
- Represent Karbon’s product direction, capabilities, and commitment in a credible way at all levels of the customer organization.
Team Leadership
- Direct a cross-functional Karbon group spanning project management, implementation, customer success, training, and support, while coordinating with Product and Engineering.
- Maintain clear ownership and smooth handoffs across the multi-office implementation for the proof-of-concept and all Phase II activities.
- Spot and address staffing or resource shortfalls as the program expands through the June to August high-volume rollout period for both the proof-of-concept and Phase II.
Delivery and Outcomes
- Ensure all offices reach go-live by the target date, with users trained, data migrated, integrations checked, and Phase II readiness confirmed.
- Keep an active risk log and make sure confidence levels across the nine known program risks stay within acceptable limits.
- Continue post-launch health reporting through Fall 2026 and prepare the proof-of-concept closure deliverable for executive review.
- Define success criteria for the proof of concept and set the engagement up for conversion into a full commercial rollout.
Required Experience and Skills
The role calls for more than 10 years of experience leading complex enterprise SaaS implementations or customer success programs, with P&L responsibility or equivalent program ownership. Candidates should have a proven history of managing multi-workstream deployments across 100+ end-user locations, working to demanding timelines, and engaging senior customer stakeholders. Strong project governance capability is essential, including risk management, dependency tracking, milestone reporting, and executive communication. The position also requires experience directly managing cross-functional teams with full people-management authority across implementation, customer success, training, and support. Comfort with ambiguity, high-pressure decision-making, and clear communication in both steering committee settings and internal stand-ups is critical.
Preferred Background
Experience in practice management, accounting, or professional services technology is preferred. Familiarity with Karbon or a comparable workflow or work management platform is also an advantage. Additional value would come from exposure to enterprise rollouts involving custom integrations and multi-tenant architectures, as well as work with large franchise networks or tax and accounting industry clients.
Why Karbon
This is a unique opportunity to lead one of Karbon’s most important customer programs and help shape how the company scales into enterprise-level deployments. The role offers direct visibility with the CCO, sales leaders, the CEO, and program owners, along with the chance to build lasting impact. Candidates who enjoy complexity, lead through uncertainty, and want their work to matter are encouraged to apply.
