Role overview
This day-shift facilities maintenance position in County Waterford is responsible for keeping critical plant and building systems running safely, efficiently, and in line with regulated site standards. The role involves routine maintenance, breakdown response, documentation, and support for audits, shutdowns, and improvement projects.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on key facilities and utilities equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot steam generation and distribution systems, including fire-tube boilers.
- Work on purified water systems, thermal sterilisation equipment such as ventilated autoclaves, and cleanroom HVAC systems, including filter changes.
- Support compressed air systems, automatic sprinkler systems, closed-loop water circuits, potable and domestic water services, and ATEX/IPA distribution equipment.
- Use the site maintenance management system to record work, track tasks, and keep documentation current.
- Respond to equipment failures quickly, identify faults, and complete repairs.
- Complete GMP-related records accurately for validated systems in accordance with site procedures.
- Take part in statutory inspections of facilities equipment.
- Support site projects and continuous improvement activities within the facilities function.
- Help during audits and inspections from bodies such as EHS, FM Global, NSAI, HPRA/IMB, FDA, and ISO 50001 assessors.
- Operate and diagnose issues through the building management system.
- Work with Facilities Engineers to improve plant efficiency and performance.
- Receive and manage IPA deliveries, both pure and waste, along with maintenance consumables and materials.
- Take part in cross-training and multi-skilling once appropriately trained.
- Provide on-call emergency cover on a rotating basis when required.
- Assist with planned shutdown activities, including the Christmas and August Bank Holiday maintenance periods.
Requirements
- A recognised mechanical trade qualification, such as a National Craft Certificate.
- At least 3 years of experience in a utilities or facilities role within an FDA-regulated environment.
- Hands-on experience with steam, purified water, compressed air, HVAC, and multiple water systems, including chilled, cooling, heating, potable, and domestic hot water.
- Exposure to solvent systems and ATEX-controlled environments.
- Prior work with sterilisation systems or autoclaves is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of building management systems.
- Familiarity with planned maintenance systems such as PEMAC.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
- Capability to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.

Work schedule and coverage
This is a day role. The position includes rotational emergency standby cover and support during scheduled shutdown periods, including Christmas and the August Bank Holiday maintenance window.
