Job description

Role overview

The Lifeguard position is focused on protecting guests and visitors in designated water areas at Princess Cays. The job involves keeping watch over swimmers, enforcing safety rules, identifying risky behavior early, and responding immediately when an emergency occurs. You will work as part of a lifeguard team and report to a supervisor.

Key responsibilities

  • Keep uninterrupted watch over people using the swim areas.
  • Apply all safety rules, procedures, and operational guidelines consistently.
  • Alert guests when they engage in unsafe actions and make sure water-safety standards are followed.
  • Maintain a professional presence that supports a secure and well-managed environment.
  • Carry out rescues when swimmers are in danger or distress.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, artificial respiration, and other emergency assistance when needed.
  • Take part in required training for CPR, first aid rescue, and EMS, and keep certifications current.
  • Document and report injuries, hazards, incidents, and unsafe conduct to the Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Check beach or pool equipment, facilities, and water conditions to confirm they are safe and usable.
  • Help clean and maintain work areas, equipment, and facilities.
  • Set up lifeguard equipment at the start of the day and return it at the end of the day.
  • Support housekeeping standards and follow environmental policies.
  • Attend meetings and ongoing training sessions as required.
  • Join internal service training to keep rescue skills sharp.
  • Help with daily opening and closing of swim areas when scheduled.
  • Handle other tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, along with guest-facing customer service experience.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment practical water-skills assessment.
  • Strong swimming ability across different water conditions.
  • Capability to assess participants in aquatic activities and recognize strengths, limitations, and safety risks.
  • Solid understanding of safety policies, site protocols, and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of emergency medical support methods and techniques.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and changing shifts.
  • Ability to stand outdoors for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical readiness to perform lifesaving procedures and drills, with full range of motion and adequate visual, verbal, and hearing ability.

  • Use PPE, safety devices, and tools correctly and consistently based on the job requirements.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and environmental concerns to the appropriate supervisor or HESS representative without delay.
