About the Role
Wellways Australia is seeking compassionate individuals to join its newly formed Bushfire Surge Response Team, providing Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services throughout the Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires. As a Life in Community (LinC) Worker, you will support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, social isolation, or loneliness by assisting them to re-engage meaningfully with their community.
This position offers full-time employment up to 30 June 2027 within a values-oriented not-for-profit organisation that provides salary packaging and annual leave loading.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize your personal lived experiences to engage and encourage members of the community.
- Provide individual and group support, guiding people in exploring interests and passions.
- Collaborate with clients' supporters to foster social connections and community integration.
- Facilitate community activities, share resources, and deliver educational presentations to raise awareness about the effects of social isolation on mental health and wellbeing.
- Promote hope through positive role modeling and practical assistance to overcome everyday obstacles.
Candidate Profile
Ideal applicants will have experienced mental health challenges and recovery, and are comfortable sharing their journey to empower others. Empathy, strong communication skills, and the ability to connect with diverse populations are essential. A blend of lived experience, relevant certifications, and knowledge of community resources will support your success.
Essential Requirements
- Personal experience with mental distress and navigating healthcare services, including mental health systems.
- Certificate IV in Mental Health/AOD Peer Work, SHARC Peer Worker Training, Intentional Peer Support, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience in community engagement or peer support roles.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Ability to secure and maintain National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and NDIS Worker Screening or willingness to complete these.
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
