About the Role
Wellways Australia is seeking compassionate and committed individuals to join our newly formed Bushfire Surge Response Team focused on Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services in the Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires. This newly created Life in Community (LinC) Worker position involves one-to-one and group support for individuals facing mental health challenges, social isolation, or loneliness, assisting them in creating meaningful community connections. You will collaboratively work with clients and their support networks, promote community engagement through activities, resource sharing, and presentations addressing social isolation's effects on mental health.
Key Responsibilities
- Use personal lived experience to engage, motivate, and support community members.
- Provide both individual and group assistance to encourage positive community participation.
- Facilitate community activities and raise awareness about social isolation and its mental health impact.
- Collaborate with team members to provide hope, practical solutions, and encouragement for overcoming barriers.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings lived experience with mental health issues, is comfortable sharing their recovery journey to empower others, and demonstrates empathy and strong communication skills. They will understand diverse community backgrounds and possess relevant training and knowledge of local support services to foster confidence, skills, and social networks.
- Experience of mental distress and navigation through healthcare, especially mental health services, with willingness to share these experiences.
- Possession or commitment to attain Certificate IV Mental Health/AOD Peer Work, SHARC Peer Worker Training, or Intentional Peer Support.
- Previous experience in peer support or community engagement roles.
- Eligibility to work in Australia with satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and NDIS Worker Screening or willingness to obtain these.
- Completion or willingness to complete the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
