Job description
About Hawk
Hawk develops AI-powered technology for anti-money laundering and fraud prevention. Financial institutions and payment providers around the world use the platform to strengthen AML compliance and fraud controls by combining established rule-based methods with explainable AI. The goal is to detect more criminal activity while lowering false positives and improving operational efficiency. Hawk’s work supports the global effort to combat money laundering, fraud, and terrorism financing. The company describes its environment as one built on trust, support, passion, and professional growth.
Role Overview
Hawk is looking for a Working Student to join its Legal team in Berlin. In this role, you will contribute to a broad mix of legal and compliance tasks that support the company’s international operations. The position offers practical exposure to contract work, regulatory research, legal operations, and collaboration with teams across the business. It is designed for a law student who wants to build real-world experience in a fast-moving SaaS and fintech setting while supporting meaningful work.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve and implement AI-based tools that support smarter contract handling and commercial agreement processes.
- Help strengthen internal legal documentation and workflow checklists by using AI tools and effective prompt design.
- Support legal operations initiatives and cross-functional coordination using modern legal ops methods.
- Review, prepare, and organise commercial, vendor, and partnership agreements while contributing to the optimization of digital contract workflows.
- Carry out legal research in areas such as financial regulation, AML and compliance, data protection, corporate law, and employment law.
- Maintain and improve legal templates, documentation, and process checklists with the help of modern software and AI research tools.
- Assist with regulatory and compliance tracking, including monitoring legal changes and sharing updates with internal teams.
- Take part in cross-functional projects and support collaboration between Legal and departments such as Sales, Product, People, and Finance.
Requirements
- You must currently be enrolled in a law degree program and be available for at least the next six months.
- Interest in AI, technology, legal operations, fintech, or compliance topics such as AML, data protection, and financial regulation is important.
- You should be able to map and describe legal processes clearly so the team can identify inefficiencies.
- Very strong English ability is required, at C1 level or higher; German is considered an advantage, especially for document review.
- You need to be careful with details, well organised, and able to manage several tasks dependably.
- The role suits someone who can work on their own, take initiative, and ask questions proactively when needed.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset are essential.
- You must be dependable and handle confidential information with discretion.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical experience supporting an in-house legal function at a rapidly growing technology company.
- Exposure to a broad set of legal topics, including commercial matters, compliance, data protection, and regulatory obligations.
- Insight into how legal frameworks operate within a SaaS business serving the financial industry.
- First-hand exposure to the impact of AI on legal work and the broader LawTech space.
- The chance to redesign and automate processes rather than only follow existing ones.
- Exposure to teams such as Sales, Product, Customer Success, People, and Leadership.
