Job description

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for independently leading legal work with limited supervision while contributing to long-term objectives. The role also functions as an internal advisor and facilitator, offering guidance that supports the execution of operational activities.

The core focus is to prepare detailed legal studies for committees dealing with withholding tax, value-added tax, and real estate transaction tax matters, provide legal opinions for consultation requests, and build action plans to address issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep current with zakat and tax laws and regulations by conducting research and offering legal guidance.
  • Collect the necessary documents and information from relevant stakeholders within the required timeframe to build and review case files.
  • Assemble case files and verify that all data is complete and accurate to support thorough file review.
  • Identify and correct inaccuracies in case file data using the available information.
  • Analyze withholding tax matters, including double taxation agreements, and assess tax exceptions, exclusions, and exemptions before submitting timely legal studies to the Committees.
  • Review value-added tax cases, including disputes involving individuals, and provide the Committees with accurate and timely legal analysis.
  • Examine selected goods tax cases, including related penalties, and prepare legal studies for the Committees on time.
  • Review real estate transaction tax cases and associated fines, then provide the Committees with timely legal studies.
  • Study provisions related to limitation periods for assessments across zakat and tax issues and deliver timely legal analysis to the Committees.
  • Evaluate legal clauses raised by appellants or respondents and submit relevant legal studies to the Committees in a timely manner.
  • Carry out both general and specialized legal research related to appeals and prepare the required reports.
  • Review requests for legal advice coming from the Technical and Accounting Studies Function for the Appeals Committee and provide supporting legal studies.
  • Prepare precise periodic and ad hoc reports for the section and share them with management.
  • Maintain and regularly update section data and information in the relevant database.
  • Escalate issues to management and propose action plans with recommendations for resolution and improvement.

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in law, or an equivalent qualification, is required. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

The role requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
