Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Statistics

About the Role

The University of Canterbury's Faculty of Engineering and School of Mathematics and Statistics in Christchurch, New Zealand, invites applications for a full-time, continuing position as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Statistics. This role involves delivering high-quality teaching, advancing research, and supporting student success in a collaborative academic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engaging, research-informed instruction across the statistics curriculum, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skills in both on-campus and online settings.
• Innovate curriculum design and delivery methods to enhance student experience, retention, and graduate outcomes.
• Secure external funding to strengthen the school's research profile and scholarship.
• Supervise and mentor postgraduate students, supporting their academic and career development.
• Develop and maintain a strong research program in statistics or a related field and actively contribute to the school's research culture.
• Establish collaborative research partnerships within the university, industry, and global networks.
• Participate in service, outreach, and leadership activities to promote an inclusive and collegial school and faculty environment.
• Contribute to teaching responsibilities offshore as part of the joint program with Qufu Normal University, China.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• PhD or equivalent qualification in statistics or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated passion and experience in delivering engaging, inclusive, and innovative teaching and assessment.
• Evidence of an emerging or established research portfolio with capacity to lead impactful outputs.
• Experience in academic mentoring, supervision, or leadership with a collegial approach.
• Understanding or emerging understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and New Zealand's bicultural context.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across diverse cultural communities.
• Commitment to equity and inclusivity, particularly supporting women and underrepresented groups in STEM.

Additional Information

This position is governed by the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement with salary ranges: Lecturer NZD 94181 to 113616; Senior Lecturer NZD 119586 to 135630 per annum.
