About the Role

The University of Canterbury is seeking a proactive Health & Safety Coordinator to support and enhance health and safety practices across the campus in Christchurch, New Zealand. This permanent role involves delivering administrative and coordination support to help implement the University's health and safety strategy, contributing to a safer workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage health and safety reporting systems and administrative functions.
  • Coordinate audits, workplace inspections, and maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing health and safety policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Organise committee meetings including agenda preparation and minute taking.
  • Coordinate training sessions and communicate health and safety information effectively.
  • Maintain the health and safety website content to ensure information accessibility.
  • Act as a central contact point for stakeholders to promote accurate and efficient health and safety systems and processes.

Candidate Profile

  • Possesses 3 to 4 years experience in administrative or coordination roles, including 1 to 2 years supporting health and safety functions.
  • Holds a tertiary qualification such as a National Diploma (Level 5) or Bachelor’s Degree (Level 7) in commerce, communications, human resources, health and safety management, or related field.
  • Capable of interpreting legislation, procedures, and organisational processes.
  • Experienced in organising meetings, committees, events, and projects.
  • Skilled at maintaining databases, reporting systems, and preparing insightful reports with trend analysis.
  • Aligns with organisational values promoting an inclusive and positive workplace culture.

Work Collaborations

The Health & Safety Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Health and Safety, Business Partners, Learning and Development teams, faculty and service unit stakeholders, committee members, staff, and external providers to support the successful delivery of health and safety initiatives.

Additional Information

  • Position is full-time, permanent with a standard 37.5 hours per week schedule.
  • Annual salary range is $67,843 - $82,125 NZD, dependent on skills and experience.
  • This is an onsite role located in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.
