Lead Radiographer - X-Ray Department

Role Overview

This pivotal role within the imaging team involves managing the X-ray department’s daily operations across various specialized areas including Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiography, Theatres, Mobile X-ray, A+E X-ray, GP X-ray, inpatient and outpatient services. The Lead Radiographer supervises department Superintendents and collaborates closely with the Imaging Manager, Clinical Director, and Site Lead to continuously develop care pathways and update training materials and protocols in line with best practice standards.

Core Responsibilities

The incumbent leads and develops X-ray departments focusing on multiple referral pathways encompassing inpatient, outpatient, surgical, emergency, community, and general practice settings. They manage staff, resources, and workflow to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered services aligned with the vision of Barts Health NHS Trust. They provide expert guidance in X-ray modalities including plain film X-ray, fluoroscopy, interventional techniques, and advanced radiographic practice, while also engaging in hands-on clinical practice.

Accountability includes overseeing operational performance at Whipps Cross Hospital's Core Services, managing financial, human resources, data governance, and key performance targets. The role entails recruiting, appraising, supporting continuous professional development, and managing performance of Radiographers and Radiography Imaging Assistants.

Service and Quality Enhancement

This leadership position champions ongoing service improvement and quality enhancements by applying modern productivity methods and quality improvement strategies across all modality areas.
