Job description
Role overview
The Junior Merchandiser position supports the Senior Merchandiser in delivering targets for sales, stock, intake, and profitability across every sales channel. This is a growth-focused opportunity for someone with solid analytical ability who is ready to take on more ownership of WSSI management, range planning, and trading. The ideal candidate will communicate clearly, work confidently in Excel, bring a commercial approach, and have a strong interest in retail.
Sales and trading
- Review trading performance reports to pinpoint top and low performers, then turn findings into practical recommendations that help improve sales.
- Prepare sales forecasts, monitor results against targets, and flag any risks or opportunities that may affect performance.
- Carry out regular store visits to understand how products are trading and share those insights with the wider team.
- Examine sales data, spot patterns and trends, and suggest actions that improve range performance.
Supply and supplier management
- Create and update supplier production forecasts at both fabric and product level, with the goal of shortening supplier lead times.
- Track fabric availability and stock levels across the supply base to help maintain efficient production lead times and reduce fabric liability.
- Develop productive supplier relationships through regular meetings and proactive communication.
Range building and planning
- Prepare and maintain range-building documents, option counts, and sales and stock plans.
- Support range planning by helping ensure the assortment is commercially balanced, avoids gaps or duplication, and fits the brand direction.
- Handle discontinuation activity and product life-cycle management.
Cross-functional collaboration
- Partner with the Buying and Product Development teams to make sure future ranges are commercially strong and aligned with market trends.
- Continue building supplier production forecasts with the aim of reducing lead times.
Team and leadership
- Act as deputy for the Senior Merchandiser when needed.
- Support and supervise junior team members.
Experience and skills
This role is suited to someone already working at Junior Merchandiser level, or an experienced Assistant Merchandiser. Multi-channel exposure across retail, online, and wholesale would be beneficial. The right candidate will be highly proficient in Excel, strong in analysis, organisation, and planning, and able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. You should be comfortable building relationships internally and externally, have a strong commercial instinct, turn data into clear actions, solve stock and sales issues effectively, and stay composed while managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
