Junior Decontamination Technician - Royal Gwent Hospital

About the Role

The Royal Gwent Hospital seeks motivated individuals to join its Hospital Sterilisation & Disinfection Unit (HSDU) as Junior Decontamination Technicians. In this key role, technicians ensure surgical tools, endoscopes, and other reusable medical equipment are meticulously cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and prepared to support patient care. Work is done in close collaboration with senior technicians and supervisors, ensuring safe device processing and compliance with strict health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with sterilising and decontaminating reusable medical instruments and endoscopes.
• Inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments and theatre trays.
• Operate decontamination machinery according to departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
• Accurately document and track instruments using electronic systems.
• Collect and deliver instruments to clinical departments as needed.
• Maintain stringent quality management standards and support continuous service delivery improvements.
• Collaborate effectively across theatres, endoscopy units, wards, and clinics.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience working in healthcare or an industrial setting demonstrating teamwork capability.
• Awareness of essential policies, procedures, systems, and regulations through induction and practical training.
• Proficient communication skills in spoken and written English.

• Basic IT capabilities.

Desirable Attributes
