About the organisation

EREA Flexible Schools Ltd supports more than 2,700 young people across 22 Flexible Learning Schools, including 12 in Queensland and 10 in other parts of Australia, along with two Special Education Services Schools in New South Wales. The organisation employs around 800 staff nationally. Its flexible schools are designed for young people facing complex educational, social, or psychological challenges, using trauma-informed practice and a shared approach based on Operation by Principles, with honesty, respect, participation, and safe & legal as core principles. Its special schools support young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

About the role

The IT Service Desk Officer helps ensure technology services are delivered in a dependable and timely way. The role focuses on keeping systems and the supporting infrastructure reliable, secure, and aligned with the policies and goals of Flexible Schools. It requires strong IT service administration practices, compliance with standards and procedures, and the ability to advise users on current and emerging technology needs.

The position reports to the IT Services Manager and sits within the IT Services Team, which includes the manager, administrators, and support staff working alongside the IT Solutions Team as part of the wider Flexi IT Team led by the Director of IT.

Key attributes and experience

  • Alignment with the values of a Catholic school system in the Edmund Rice tradition.
  • Desirable exposure to IT needs and practices within the education sector.
  • Proven ability to organise IT service activities effectively and reliably.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills suited to a complex organisational environment.
  • Solid administrative and organisational capability to manage the responsibilities of the role and assist the IT Services Manager.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify issues, anticipate possible problems, and plan appropriate responses.
  • Capacity to build trust and collaboration through attentive listening, clear communication, and humility.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in line with the role.
  • A vocational qualification or degree in information technology, information systems, or another relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution would be advantageous.
  • Industry qualifications related to IT service delivery or IT service frameworks, such as ITIL, would also be regarded favourably.

What we offer

  • Salary packaging benefits, including FBT-exempt payments of up to $15,900 per year.
  • The opportunity to be part of the Edmund Rice charism.
  • Employer superannuation contribution of 12.75%.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program.

Application and other conditions

Applicants must submit a current CV and cover letter in PDF format, highlighting qualifications, experience, and suitability for the position. The selected candidate must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a current Working With Children Check.

All applicants will be subject to EREA screening and the relevant legislative checks, in line with the organisation’s child protection policies and procedures. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. EREA is an equal opportunity employer. For a confidential discussion about the role, contact Darren Harbinson, Director of IT, on 0409 626 868 or darren.harbinson@flexi.edu.au.
