Overview

The DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office is currently seeking experienced Investigators II to join its law enforcement team in Morrow, GA. This full-time onsite role involves leading investigations, coordinating staff activities, and supporting legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct daily activities of assigned personnel, ensuring tasks are well-organized and prioritized.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to assign work and monitor project progress, including quality inspections of completed tasks.
  • Provide technical assistance, resolve complex challenges, and assist in training colleagues on departmental procedures.
  • Support Assistant Solicitors with investigation processes, including case file review, preparation of search warrants and court orders, securing and analyzing evidence while maintaining chain of custody.
  • Conduct interviews of victims and witnesses, document crime scenes through photographs and sketches, and utilize investigative tools to gather necessary information.
  • Develop witness lists, confer on trial strategies, and provide testimony in court when required.
  • Locate and serve subpoenas to parties involved in felony cases, ensure their court attendance, and coordinate accommodations such as travel and lodging.
  • Work with fugitive units for witness apprehension and arrange court appearance schedules.
  • Provide transport and security for attorneys, victims, victim advocates, and witnesses during interviews, crime scene investigations, and court proceedings.
  • Maintain courtroom security and escort involved parties during trials.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification.
  • Peace Officer Basic Law Enforcement certification is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminology or criminal justice strongly preferred.
  • Minimum two years of investigative, law enforcement, criminology, or related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license is required and must be maintained.

Additional Requirements and Skills

  • Ability to analyze and assess data using established standards with sound discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively persuade and influence others and resolve work-related issues.
  • Experience providing semi-formal training and leadership as a team lead or supervisor, including coordinating tasks and reviewing work quality.

Compensation

Salary is competitive, ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience.
