Job description

Position Overview

Join the Building Safety and Standards Enforcement team as a Senior Investigator, playing a vital role in managing significant investigations that contribute to a safer, more reliable building industry in Queensland. Your efforts will involve analyzing evidence, interpreting relevant legislation, offering expert insights, and influencing regulatory decisions to protect community consumers.

About the Organisation

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is the state’s independent regulatory body dedicated to securing public safety, supporting industry professionals, and fostering community trust within the building and construction sector. The agency supports an industry valued at $69 billion by protecting consumers through the Home Warranty Scheme, promoting education, and maintaining a robust regulatory system.

Role Details

This role is primarily located in Brisbane but offers flexible work arrangements including remote options at regional QBCC offices such as Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Maryborough, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, and Gold Coast depending on availability. Occasional travel to the Brisbane headquarters may be necessary for those stationed regionally.

Responsibilities include conducting thorough and delicate investigations into potential breaches of QBCC legislation. Tasks involve collecting and analyzing evidence, interpreting laws, providing expert advice, preparing cases for legal proceedings, and representing QBCC in tribunals and courts. The position requires interaction with diverse stakeholders, influencing decision-making processes and contributing to strategic enforcement activities that safeguard consumers and promote industry confidence.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring extensive investigative experience, having managed intricate and sensitive cases previously, possibly within law enforcement or specialized investigative roles. Strong analytical reasoning, sound judgement, and confidence in handling complex scenarios are essential. Effective communication skills and the ability to build trust rapidly with industry, legal, and government stakeholders are critical for success. This senior role is aimed at seasoned professionals eager to deliver impactful results.

Application Process

Applicants should provide a resume along with a cover letter (no more than two pages) detailing how their background aligns with the candidate attributes and key outcomes specified in the position description.
