The Standards Verifier helps protect the reliability and consistency of vocational qualifications by checking that assessment and internal verification practices align with national standards. The role combines subject expertise, sampling and verification activity, feedback delivery, and support for quality assurance improvement. It also involves ongoing training, collaboration with internal teams, and engagement with centres to maintain high standards of assessment.

Role-specific duties and expectations

• Keep up to date with the relevant qualification specifications and, where applicable, National Occupational Standards.
• Offer subject-specific advice, guidance, and support in line with verification requirements.
• Complete all compulsory training and yearly standardisation activities within the required timeframes.
• Carry out centre visits where visiting verification is required, following Assessment team guidance and subject to approval.
• Work within Pearson quality assurance procedures and apply the prescribed sampling approach for assigned qualifications.
• Review learner evidence and internal verification records for accuracy and compliance.
• Confirm that assessment decisions are valid, consistent, and in line with national standards.
• Give clear, constructive feedback to centres during sampling.
• Prepare detailed, practical sampling reports for each visited centre.
• Explain when standards have not been achieved and specify the corrective action needed.
• Support centres in resolving issues, improving practice, and staying compliant.
• Suggest learner work or assessment materials that could be used for future training and standardisation events.
• Maintain regular contact with your Pearson supervisor and work closely with internal teams.
• Take a proactive approach to quality assurance and uphold high standards throughout the role.

Experience and qualifications

Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong experience in quality assurance and assessment practice, along with the ability to meet the following requirements:

• A minimum of 2 full academic years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or sector within the last 8 years, and/or substantial knowledge and experience of Pearson assessment, quality processes, and national standards within the last 5 years.
• Experience in verifying regulated qualifications.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proven ability to deliver and coordinate training sessions, including standardisation and other standards-focused activities.
• Detailed knowledge of the specifications relevant to the specialist sector, including internal requirements.
• Evidence of prior leadership or support in essential quality assurance activities.

Documentation and application checks

If you move past the initial screening stage, the recruitment team will ask for supporting documents and further steps. You may be required to provide evidence of vocational qualifications such as BTEC, copies of relevant subject-specific qualifications, proof of the required teaching experience or Pearson quality assurance experience, and evidence of relevant CPD completed within the last 12 months.
